   Step 1 Revision ( 5 mins )

          1 Revise the names of sports.

            The Ss watch video and tell the names of

            sports.  (  shooting, horse-riding,

            wrestling, sailing, etc )

          2 Ask some Ss to have dialogues about

            sports.  (  whether often have sports,

            preferences? had what sports  in the

            school sports meeting )

   Step 2 Preparation for reading ( 10 mins )

          1 The school sports meeting - the National

            Games -the Asian Games - the Olympic

            Games ( the title )

            Ask the Ss where the athletes are from

            and what the names of the sports

            meetings are.

          2 About the Olympic flag: 5 colours & 5

            rings

            Explain to the Ss why there are 5

            coloured rings.

            5 colours: blue, yellow, black, green

                       and red

            5 rings: standing for Europe, Asia,

                    Africa, Australia and America

          3 Teach some new words:

            Olympic Games,athlete, gold medal,

            prize,competition, etc

          4 Read about the Olympic Games to find out

            when and  where the first Olympic Games

            in modern times were.

   Step 3 Reading ( 20 mins )

          1 Read the second paragragh to find out

            what it is about.

            Practise skimming.

          2 Read the fourth paragragh to recognize

            some details.

            Practise scanning.

          3 Read the passage and tell if the

            sentences are true or false.

          4 Deal with some language points.
